Governance Structure
Collaborative Leadership for a Strong Mentorship System
The Provincial Teacher Mentorship Program is guided by a robust governance structure that ensures transparency, accountability, and sector-wide collaboration. This structure brings together key education partners to shape the program’s vision, monitor its progress, and ensure it meets the diverse needs of B.C.’s public school teachers.
Steering Committee
The Steering Committee provides strategic oversight and guidance for the pilot. It includes representatives from:
- Association of BC Deans of Education (ABCDE)
- BC Public School Employers’ Association (BCPSEA)
- BC Principals and Vice-Principals’ Association (BCPVPA)
- BC Superintendents Association (BCSSA)
- BC Teachers’ Council (BCTC)
- BC Teachers’ Federation (BCTF)
- Conseil scolaire francophone de la Colombie-Britannique (CSF)
- First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC)
- Ministry of Education and Child Care (ECC)
This committee meets regularly to review progress, provide feedback, and support alignment with provincial priorities.
Joint Working Group Supporting First Nation Teacher Mentorship
A key advisory body supporting the First Nation Teacher Mentorship Branch is a joint working group composed of representatives from:
- First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC)
- Indigenous Adult and Higher Learning Association (IAHLA)
- Ministry of Education and Child Care (ECC)
- Ministry of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills (PSFS)
The Working Group plays a key role in informing and guiding the First Nation Teacher Mentorship Branch, ensuring it reflects First Nation perspectives and supports the goals of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act Action Plan.
Provincial Teacher Mentorship Office
Hosted by the UBC Faculty of Education, the Office is responsible for program delivery, resource development, and coordination across the three mentorship branches. It works closely with both the Steering Committee and the Joint Working Group to ensure the program remains responsive, inclusive, and impactful.
